Ireland on Dipity.
Many of the events I've posted on my timeline about Ireland include events that occurred in the 1900s. I feel that the events I've posted about Ireland from the 1900s are very important because they're the most recent events that have caused Ireland to be the country that it is today. In 1921 Ireland established the Free State, which was when part of Ireland had self-government rights, but Northern Ireland still remained part of the United Kingdom. Then from 1922 to 1923 Ireland had a Civil War, which involved around 3,000 deaths. In 1937 Ireland had a new constitution approved, which abolished the Free State and proclaimed Ireland as a sovereign, independent, and democratic state. When World War II began in 1939 Ireland remained neutral throughout the entire war. So, during the war some of the people of Ireland decided to join the Allied forces. In 1973 Ireland joined the European Economic Community, which has had a huge impact on the development of Ireland's nation throughout the years. The Anglo-Irish Agreement in 1985 was also a big step for the Irish nation because it gave the Republic of Ireland a consultative role in the government of Northern Ireland. And, finally the last event I posted was in 1990 when Ireland's first woman President was elected. Her name is Mary Robinson. I believe this is an important event in history for Ireland due to the fact that the country still does not have full gender equality.
